Bonjour! From Mme. Campbell

MEET THE TEACHER!
……………………………………….
October 19th, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Bonjour! My name is Christi Campbell and I will be teaching your child in the afternoons in the Grade 4 French Immersion classroom.

I am born and raised in Muskoka, having taken the French Immersion program myself at Monck Public School and BMLSS in Bracebridge. I completed my undergraduate degree with a major in Second Language Teaching and a minor in French at the University of Ottawa. I then completed my Master of Teaching at the University of Toronto where I graduated this past spring. Some of my favorites: sports (basketball, soccer, volleyball), horseback riding, animals, and the outdoors!

I have spent the past three weeks supply teaching in your child’s classroom allowing me to get to know the students and the classroom. I’m very excited about the opportunity to get to know your child, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year.

In the afternoons I will be teaching the following subjects in French:

·      French Language
·      Social Studies
·      Physical Education
·      Art

I have been in communication and collaboration with your child’s morning teacher, Anne Lindsay, to ensure a smooth transition for everyone.

If you would like to talk or meet with me, please feel free to send in a note with your child or an email and we can set up a time. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or would like to provide me with any additional information about your child, you can always contact me via email.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Madame Campbell

A debate, large number project and zombies?

Bonjour!
I hope that you have been enjoying our beautiful fall weather.  This Friday, October 27th, our class will be the site of a debate (en francais!) about a hypothetical dam to be built on the Big East River.  Three groups will be presenting arguments for the construction of a dam and three groups will be arguing that it shouldn't be built.  Students representing the Town of Huntsville will make the ultimate decision.  Supporting the construction of the dam will be groups representing Hydro, landowners whose homes are flooded every year on the Big East River and a local marina, that hopes to sell boats and sports equipment to people who could make use of the lake created by the construction of the dam.
Against the proposal will be the Muskoka Conservancy, Algonquin Outfitters and a group of kayakers (who also organise the Muskoka River X).  Your child may be looking for some basic costume ideas for the debate.  We will let you know how it turns out!
Also, please see below for the Large Number Math Project that students will be completing for next Monday, October 30th.  Students will be given time in class to work on this project this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Finally, I am hoping to offer the kids in our class a 'zombie' run on the Hunter's Bay trail for Hallowe'en this upcoming Tuesday, October 31st in the morning.  (Don't worry ... no real zombies ... just kids trying to take off the flag football flags from runners on the trail).  A parent volunteer is needed in order for this to happen.  Please e-mail me or send me a note via your child's agenda if you are able to help.
    A bientot!  Mme Lindsay

A trip to the Riverside property and HPS buff fundraiser

Hello and hope that you had a good Thanksgiving weekend with your families.  This Thursday, October 12th our class will be heading to the property across the road from Riverside to play the Ecology game.  This active game involves students assuming the role of either a herbivore, an omnivore or a carnivore and striving to 'survive' by finding their food and water needs while avoiding predators or other hazards.  We will be leaving the school after morning announcements and will be returning by approximately 10:30 a.m..  Note that bussing to and from the Riverside property is being paid for by our administration team:).  Permission forms will have to be submitted by this Thursday.
As a fundraiser for our year-end class, our class will be selling HPS buffs until the end of October.  One-third of our profits will be donated to the HPS playground fund.  The buffs are very versatile (headband, neck warmer, bandana), a great way to show school spirit and a good Christmas idea.  The cost is $15 each and all orders can be submitted to our classroom.
  À bientôt!  Mme Lindsay
